Wind Energy

Another form of solar energy is wind energy.

  • Wind Energy

Origin Wind mills have been in use as early as 2000 B.C
which was commissioned by China and Persia
  • Power Just a single wind turbine can power around 500 homes alone.
Its currently the fastest-growing source of electricity
  • Eco-friendly Roughly around 168 million megawatt-hours generated.

Wind Energy

One of natures forces, wind, has now become a source of power to create electricity without damaging our beautiful planets environment. May not seem so, but wind energy is a form of solar energy. The uneven heating of our planets atmosphere by our sun and the irregularities of the surface of the Earth and the rotation of our planet cause wind.

The earths terrain and the flow of water modify the winds flowing pattern and by using modern technology we can use these wind patterns and harvest the energy to generate electricity.

How does wind generate electricity? By simply using the technology of wind turbines we have created a way to take the energy generated by the wind which is knows as 'kinetic' energy into electricity.

Wind turbine is a massive blade that looks very similar to that of an aircraft that turns when wind is blowing through and then powers a electric generator that creates the wind into electricity.

Advantages and Disadvantages

A renewable resource which does not pollute our planet. It is a free non-depleting resource. Thus it can reduce the amount of carbon dioxide pollution with more than 2.5 billion pounds, that would take forest of more than 90 million trees to produce the same quality of air.

Unfortunately some good things have bad things. Its not very cost effective. It costs around 80% more to set up a wind turbine that a generator that uses fossil fuels. It also causes noise pollution and have killed many birds and bats, but now with newer technologies and proper sitings the number of deaths have decreased.

At certain times a modern wind turbine produces 15 times more electricity than that of the typical turbine did 30 years ago.
